Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Red food coloring
  • Crushed peppermint candies for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients until fully combined.
  6. Divide the dough in half, adding red food coloring to one half and mixing until desired shade is achieved.
  7. Roll pieces of each dough into ropes and twist together to form candy cane shapes.
  8. Place on the lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, until lightly golden.
  9. Immediately sprinkle with crushed peppermint candies after baking.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
