Description

A warm and comforting dessert featuring sweet and tart baked apples with a crunchy topping.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 lb granny smith apples, peeled, cored, and chopped (about 6 to 7 cups)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch or all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 8 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the chopped Granny Smith apples, sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, salt, and cinnamon. Mix gently until the apples are well coated.
  3. In another bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Pour in the melted butter and stir until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a baking dish, spread the apple mixture evenly. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples, covering them completely.
  5. Bake in your preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling.
  6. Cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

Store covered at room temperature for 1-2 days or in the refrigerator for 4-5 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes.
