Description
Beautiful and delightful meringues shaped like Christmas trees, perfect for festive gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large egg whites, room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- Green food coloring (gel or liquid)
- Decorative sprinkles (edible stars, silver balls, etc.)
- Parchment paper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the egg whites on medium speed until foamy.
- Add the cream of tartar and continue to beat until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the granulated sugar, a tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat the egg whites until glossy and stiff peaks form, about 5-7 minutes.
- Mix in the vanilla extract to combine evenly.
- Divide the meringue into two bowls; leave one plain and add green food coloring to the other.
- Transfer the plain meringue to a piping bag fitted with a star tip, and repeat with the green meringue.
- Pipe small swirls starting from the base, building up in layers to form a tree shape. Use the plain meringue for the tree trunk and branches, and green for the leaves.
- Sprinkle decorative sprinkles on top of the piped meringue trees.
- Bake for about 2 hours or until dry and easily lift off the parchment. Let them cool completely inside the oven.
