Description
A delicious holiday treat made with saltine crackers, caramel, and chocolate. Perfect for gifts or holiday parties.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sleeve (about 40) saltine crackers
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
- 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
- ¼ cup holiday sprinkles or crushed candy canes (optional)
- Pinch of sea salt
- ½ cup chopped nuts (pecans, almonds, or peanuts)
- 1 tablespoon crushed pretzels for extra crunch
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange saltines side by side to cover the surface.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly until boiling. Boil for 3 minutes without stopping.
- Carefully pour hot caramel over the crackers and spread evenly. Bake for 5 to 6 minutes until bubbling and golden brown.
- Remove the pan from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot caramel. Let them rest for a minute to soften, then spread evenly using a spatula.
- While the chocolate is still warm, add sprinkles, candy canes, or nuts. Let it cool at room temperature for 15 minutes, then refrigerate for 1 hour until firm.
- Lift the bark from the pan and break into pieces. Store in airtight containers for up to two weeks, or freeze for three months.
Notes
Separate layers with wax paper when stacking to prevent sticking and keep the toffee crisp.
