Description

A festive and easy-to-make dessert that combines the salty crunch of saltine crackers with a rich caramel layer and smooth chocolate, perfect for sharing during the holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sleeve (about 40) saltine crackers
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • Sprinkles or festive toppings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and lightly coat it with nonstick spray.
  3. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the lined baking sheet, covering it completely.
  4. In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly while bringing it to a boil and cook for 3 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  5. Pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the crackers, using a spatula to spread it if necessary.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes until the caramel is bubbling.
  7. Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel layer.
  8. Let the chocolate chips sit for 2 to 3 minutes to soften, then spread them evenly with a spatula.
  9. While the chocolate is still warm, sprinkle chopped nuts, sprinkles, or other decorations on top if desired.
  10. Allow the mixture to cool completely, then refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours until it sets.
  11. Break the cooled slab into pieces and serve!
