Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper, arranging the saltine crackers in a single layer.
- In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter and brown sugar, stirring continuously until it boils for 3 minutes.
- Carefully pour the caramel over the crackers and spread it evenly with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes until the caramel bubbles up.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle semi-sweet chocolate chips over the hot caramel, letting them sit for 2 minutes to melt.
- Spread the melted chocolate into an even layer; add vanilla extract if desired.
- Add toppings like crushed nuts or peppermint candies, and finish with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt if desired.
- Refrigerate for 2 hours to let it set, then break into pieces.
