Description

A festive and easy holiday dessert with layers of crispy saltine crackers, rich caramel, and smooth chocolate, perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 40 saltine crackers (≈ 1 sleeve)
  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200 g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups (340 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • ¼ tsp flaky sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper, arranging the saltine crackers in a single layer.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter and brown sugar, stirring continuously until it boils for 3 minutes.
  3. Carefully pour the caramel over the crackers and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes until the caramel bubbles up.
  5. Remove from the oven and sprinkle semi-sweet chocolate chips over the hot caramel, letting them sit for 2 minutes to melt.
  6. Spread the melted chocolate into an even layer; add vanilla extract if desired.
  7. Add toppings like crushed nuts or peppermint candies, and finish with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt if desired.
  8. Refrigerate for 2 hours to let it set, then break into pieces.
