Description

A rich, moist chocolate cake perfect for any occasion, easy to make and delicious.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; whisk until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Carefully stir in boiling water to create a thin batter.
  6. If desired, fold in semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove cakes from oven and cool in pans for about 20 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  10. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting once cooled.
