- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Optional: 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar. Mix well until smooth and glossy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and, if using, chopped nuts until evenly distributed.
- Drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are set but centers are still soft.
- Allow to cool on baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
