Description

A flavorful and crispy sesame chicken dish that’s better than takeout, sweet and savory, perfect for home-cooked meals.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless chicken breast
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Cut the chicken breast into bite-sized pieces for even cooking.
  2. Set up a breading station: whisk eggs in one bowl and mix cornstarch and flour in another.
  3. Dip each piece of chicken in beaten eggs, then coat well in the flour and cornstarch mixture.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry chicken in batches for 4-5 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Drain fried chicken on paper towels.
  6. Prepare the sauce: in a saucepan, mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, garlic, and sesame oil. Add cornstarch slurry, simmer until thickened.
  7. In a clean skillet, toss the fried chicken with the sauce to coat evenly.
  8. Top with toasted sesame seeds and green onions. Serve hot with rice or noodles.

Notes

Serve with steamed rice, noodles, or a side of vegetables for a complete meal. Adjust sweetness of the sauce according to taste.
