Description

A hearty and flavorful chili packed with meats, beans, and spices, perfect for warming up on a chilly day.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/3 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound sweet Italian sausage
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 (29-oz) can diced tomatoes (undrained)
  • 2 (12 oz) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1 (15 oz) can chili beans (undrained)
  • 1 (15 oz) can kidney beans (drained and rinsed)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a Dutch oven or large soup pan over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion, celery, and green bell pepper; cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add ground beef and sweet Italian sausage, breaking up the meat as it cooks until nicely browned.
  4. Stir in chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, pepper, oregano, sugar, and cayenne; mix for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Stir in diced tomatoes with juice and tomato sauce.
  6. Add hot sauce based on desired spice level.
  7. Mix in chili beans and kidney beans; stir well.
  8. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low and let simmer for 10-15 minutes.

Notes

Adjust spice levels to taste and consider serving with cornbread, rice, or cheese.
