Description

Delicious homemade Chicken Bao Buns filled with savory chicken and fresh vegetables, perfect for a snack or meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup cooked chicken, shredded
  • 1/2 cup chopped vegetables (like carrots, cucumbers, and scallions)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl.
  2. Add warm water and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients. Knead the mixture until it becomes smooth.
  3. Allow the dough to rise for about 30 minutes in a warm place, covering it with a kitchen towel.
  4. Combine the shredded chicken, chopped vegetables, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger in a separate bowl. Stir until well combined.
  5. After the dough has risen, divide it into small balls (about the size of a golf ball) and flatten each ball slightly to form a circle.
  6. Place a spoonful of the chicken mixture in the center of each circle. Fold the edges over the filling to seal them shut.
  7. Arrange the buns in a steamer, ensuring they have space to expand.
  8. Steam the buns for about 15-20 minutes until they are fluffy and cooked through.

Notes

Serve warm and enjoy with soy sauce or a dipping sauce.
