Description

Delicious cherry cinnamon rolls that are soft, fluffy, and filled with sweet cherries and cinnamon, topped with creamy frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup cherry pie filling
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a bowl, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, sugar, active dry yeast, and salt. In a separate saucepan, heat the milk and butter over low heat until warm. Stir this mixture into the dry ingredients. Add the egg and mix until it’s smooth. Gradually add the remaining cup of flour until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead and rise: Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 5-7 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  3. Roll out the dough: Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface, about 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Add cherry filling and cinnamon: Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the dough and sprinkle ground cinnamon on top.
  5. Roll and slice: Roll the dough tightly from one end to the other and slice into 1-inch thick pieces, yielding about 10-12 rolls.
  6. Second rise: Place sliced rolls in a greased baking dish with space between them. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes until puffed.
  7. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Make the frosting: Combine cream cheese, powdered sugar, and 1-2 tablespoons of milk in a bowl. Mix until smooth.
  9. Frost and serve: Drizzle cream cheese frosting over warm rolls.

Notes

Allow rolls to cool slightly before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting completely.
