Description
Delicious cheesy baked onions with a crispy breadcrumb topping, perfect as a side dish for any meal.
Ingredients
- Sweet onions (like Vidalia or Walla Walla, or yellow onions)
- Sharp cheddar cheese
- Mozzarella cheese
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Paprika
- Breadcrumbs (plain or Italian-seasoned)
- Butter (or olive oil for a non-dairy option)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel and slice the onions into thick rings, about 1/2 inch wide. Soak them in cold water for about 10 minutes for extra sweetness.
- In a bowl, combine shredded sharp cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Mix until evenly coated.
- Dip each onion ring into the cheese mixture, pressing to ensure the cheese sticks. Place on a greased baking sheet.
- In a separate bowl, mix breadcrumbs with melted butter (or olive oil). Coat the breadcrumbs well and sprinkle over the cheese-coated onion rings.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until onions are tender and the tops are golden brown and crispy.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving warm.
Notes
Feel free to customize the cheese and add spices or herbs according to your taste preferences.
