Description

Delicious cheesy baked onions with a crispy breadcrumb topping, perfect as a side dish for any meal.

Ingredients

  • Sweet onions (like Vidalia or Walla Walla, or yellow onions)
  • Sharp cheddar cheese
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Paprika
  • Breadcrumbs (plain or Italian-seasoned)
  • Butter (or olive oil for a non-dairy option)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and slice the onions into thick rings, about 1/2 inch wide. Soak them in cold water for about 10 minutes for extra sweetness.
  3. In a bowl, combine shredded sharp cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Mix until evenly coated.
  4. Dip each onion ring into the cheese mixture, pressing to ensure the cheese sticks. Place on a greased baking sheet.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix breadcrumbs with melted butter (or olive oil). Coat the breadcrumbs well and sprinkle over the cheese-coated onion rings.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until onions are tender and the tops are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

Feel free to customize the cheese and add spices or herbs according to your taste preferences.
