Description

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup additional shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.
  3. Add the broccoli florets and blanch for 2 to 3 minutes; drain thoroughly and pat dry.
  4. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  5. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  6. Gradually whisk in the milk until thickened, about 5 to 7 minutes; remove from heat.
  7. Stir in 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese and 1/2 cup Monterey Jack cheese until melted.
  8. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  9. Add the broccoli to the cheese sauce and stir to coat.
  10. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
  11. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until bubbly and golden brown.
  12. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days. You can reheat individual servings in the microwave or warm the whole dish in the oven.
