- 1 pound fresh broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk (whole or 2%)
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup additional shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the broccoli florets and blanch for 2 to 3 minutes; drain thoroughly and pat dry.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in the milk until thickened, about 5 to 7 minutes; remove from heat.
- Stir in 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese and 1/2 cup Monterey Jack cheese until melted.
- Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Add the broccoli to the cheese sauce and stir to coat.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until bubbly and golden brown.
- Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days. You can reheat individual servings in the microwave or warm the whole dish in the oven.
