Description

A comforting one-dish meal combining seasoned ground beef and creamy mashed potatoes, topped with melted cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup marinara or tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cup milk or cream
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar or mozzarella
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil the cubed potatoes in salted water until fork-tender. Drain and mash with butter and milk, adding salt and pepper to taste until smooth.
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat, add diced onion and cook until soft, then add minced garlic and browned ground beef, and season with salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  3. Stir in marinara sauce, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce; let simmer until thickened.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), grease a baking dish, and spread half of the mashed potatoes at the bottom.
  5. Spoon the beef mixture over the mashed potatoes.
  6. Spread the remaining mashed potatoes on top and sprinkle with shredded cheese and Parmesan.
  7. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  8. Let rest for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

Allow the casserole to rest after baking for better serving. Feel free to customize with different meats or add vegetables.
