Description
A comforting one-dish meal combining seasoned ground beef and creamy mashed potatoes, topped with melted cheese.
Ingredients

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup marinara or tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp paprika
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
- ¼ cup butter
- ½ cup milk or cream
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 cups shredded cheddar or mozzarella
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan (optional)
Instructions
- Boil the cubed potatoes in salted water until fork-tender. Drain and mash with butter and milk, adding salt and pepper to taste until smooth.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat, add diced onion and cook until soft, then add minced garlic and browned ground beef, and season with salt, black pepper, and paprika.
- Stir in marinara sauce, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce; let simmer until thickened.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), grease a baking dish, and spread half of the mashed potatoes at the bottom.
- Spoon the beef mixture over the mashed potatoes.
- Spread the remaining mashed potatoes on top and sprinkle with shredded cheese and Parmesan.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let rest for a few minutes before serving warm.
Notes
Allow the casserole to rest after baking for better serving. Feel free to customize with different meats or add vegetables.
