Description
A warm, cheesy sandwich filled with sweet caramelized onions and crisp apple slices.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 slices of bread (preferably sourdough or your choice)
- 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 apple, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat and add sliced onions. Cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized (about 15-20 minutes). Season with salt and pepper.
- In another skillet or griddle, heat over medium heat.
- Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in the skillet. Layer with half the Gruyère cheese, caramelized onions, and apple slices. Top with remaining cheese and the second slice of bread, butter-side up.
- Cook until the bottom slice is golden brown (about 3-5 minutes). Flip and cook until the other side is golden and cheese is melted.
- Remove from skillet, slice in half, and serve warm.
Notes
For a healthier option, consider using less butter or low-fat cheese.
