Description

A warm, cheesy sandwich filled with sweet caramelized onions and crisp apple slices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of bread (preferably sourdough or your choice)
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 apple, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat and add sliced onions. Cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized (about 15-20 minutes). Season with salt and pepper.
  2. In another skillet or griddle, heat over medium heat.
  3. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  4. Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in the skillet. Layer with half the Gruyère cheese, caramelized onions, and apple slices. Top with remaining cheese and the second slice of bread, butter-side up.
  5. Cook until the bottom slice is golden brown (about 3-5 minutes). Flip and cook until the other side is golden and cheese is melted.
  6. Remove from skillet, slice in half, and serve warm.

Notes

For a healthier option, consider using less butter or low-fat cheese.
