Description

Indulge in this delightful breakfast treat featuring caramelized bananas and a rich bourbon sauce over crispy French toast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices thick-cut brioche or challah
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar (for garnish)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)
  • Chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
  2. Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter.
  3. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, soaking for about 30 seconds on each side.
  4. Place the soaked bread in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. In a separate pan, melt the remaining butter over medium heat, then add the brown sugar, bourbon, and salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to bubble.
  6. Add the sliced bananas to the bourbon sauce and cook for 2-3 minutes, until caramelized and tender.
  7. Serve the French toast topped with the caramelized bananas, and drizzle with maple syrup and powdered sugar.

Notes

Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor and avoid over-soaking the bread.
