- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 egg

- Red and green food coloring
- Crushed candy canes (for decoration)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until well combined.
- Divide the dough in half and tint one half red and the other half green.
- Roll small pieces of each colored dough into 6-inch ropes.
- Twist a red rope and a green rope together to form a candy cane shape.
- Place shaped cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and sprinkle with crushed candy canes.
- Bake for 9 to 10 minutes, or until edges are golden.
- Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
