Description

Delightful candy cane shaped cookies combining peppermint and vanilla flavors, perfect for the holiday season.


Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Red and green food coloring
  • Crushed candy canes (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until well combined.
  6. Divide the dough in half and tint one half red and the other half green.
  7. Roll small pieces of each colored dough into 6-inch ropes.
  8. Twist a red rope and a green rope together to form a candy cane shape.
  9. Place shaped cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and sprinkle with crushed candy canes.
  10. Bake for 9 to 10 minutes, or until edges are golden.
  11. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
