- 12 ounces penne or rotini pasta
- 1 pound ground beef or thinly sliced beef steak
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 large green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 large red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups shredded provolone cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Boil the pasta in salted water until just al dente, drain, and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high and sauté the onions and bell peppers until softened, about 6 to 8 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat. Season with salt, black pepper, oregano, and red pepper flakes.
- Reduce heat to low, stir in cream cheese until melted, then mix in milk with half of the shredded provolone and mozzarella cheeses until smooth.
- Add strained pasta to the skillet and toss to coat with the beef and cheese sauce.
- Transfer to the prepared baking dish and sprinkle remaining provolone and mozzarella on top.
- Bake for 18 to 22 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Broil for 1 to 2 minutes if desired for browning.
- Allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving hot.
