Description

Delicious cookies infused with rich chocolate and sweet dried cherries, reminiscent of classic Black Forest cake.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup dried cherries or tart cherries, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Gently fold in the chocolate chips, chopped dried cherries, and walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  7. Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops look slightly cracked.
  9. Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, dust the cookies lightly with powdered sugar if desired before serving.

Notes

For added texture, consider chilling the dough for about 30 minutes before baking.
