Delicious cookies infused with rich chocolate and sweet dried cherries, reminiscent of classic Black Forest cake.

- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup dried cherries or tart cherries, chopped
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then mix in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips, chopped dried cherries, and walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops look slightly cracked.
- Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, dust the cookies lightly with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
Notes
For added texture, consider chilling the dough for about 30 minutes before baking.
