Description
A delightful twist on traditional eggnog, this creamy milkshake blends eggnog and vanilla ice cream for a festive treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups eggnog, chilled
- 2 cups vanilla ice cream, slightly softened
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, plus more for topping
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 2 tablespoons rum or bourbon, or 1 teaspoon rum extract (optional)
- 1 cup whipped cream, for topping
- 2 teaspoons caramel sauce or cinnamon sugar, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Chill the serving glasses in the freezer for 10–15 minutes so the milkshake stays thick and frosty.
- Add the chilled eggnog, vanilla ice cream, ground nutmeg, and vanilla extract (if using) to a blender.
- If making an adults-only version, add the rum, bourbon, or rum extract to the blender as well.
- Blend on medium-high speed until the mixture is smooth, thick, and creamy; stop to scrape down the sides if needed.
- Check the consistency: add a splash more eggnog to thin the milkshake or an extra scoop of ice cream to thicken, then blend again briefly.
- Taste and adjust the flavor with an extra pinch of nutmeg or a few more drops of vanilla, blending just until combined.
- Divide the eggnog milkshake between the chilled glasses.
- Top each glass generously with whipped cream.
- Garnish with a sprinkle of nutmeg and a drizzle of caramel sauce or a dusting of cinnamon sugar, if desired.
- Add festive straws and serve immediately while the milkshakes are very cold and creamy.
Notes
For a thicker milkshake, add more ice cream. For a lighter version, reduce the ice cream or add more eggnog.
