Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1½ tablespoons baking powder
  • 1¾ cups buttermilk (plus extra if needed)
  • 2½ cups diced beef, cut into ½-inch cubes
  • 1½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup salted butter, melted
  • Non-stick cooking spray or extra butter for greasing

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a baking sheet with non-stick spray or butter.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and baking powder.
  3. Create a well in the dry ingredients and pour in buttermilk. Mix until a shaggy dough forms, adding more buttermilk if needed. Do not overmix.
  4. Gently fold in the diced beef and shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each biscuit.
  6. Drizzle the melted butter over the tops of the biscuits.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Serve warm.
