Description
A simplified version of the classic takeout dish featuring tender beef, crisp broccoli, and chewy lo mein noodles, all tossed in savory sauces.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz (225 g) lo mein noodles
- 1 lb (450 g) beef, thinly sliced (ribeye or sirloin)
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp ginger, minced
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 cup beef broth or water
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
- Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the noodles: Boil a large pot of water, add the lo mein noodles, and cook according to package instructions, about 5-7 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Prepare the beef and broccoli: Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef in batches, cooking until browned on all sides, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
- Cook the vegetables: In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of oil, then add minced garlic and ginger, sautéing for about 30 seconds. Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp.
- Combine everything: Return the beef to the skillet and add the cooked lo mein noodles, soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and beef broth. Toss well and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until coated in sauce.
- Adjust seasoning: Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
- Serve: Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, substitute beef with tofu or tempeh. Add extra veggies like bell peppers or carrots for more nutrition.
