Description

Delicious apple turnovers filled with a creamy and sweet whipped cream filling, wrapped in flaky pastry.


Ingredients

  • 4 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 square sheets butter puff pastry
  • 1 large egg, whisked
  • 2 batches stabilized whipped cream or stiff whipped cream
  • 1 batch whipped cream for dipping (optional)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Add diced apples to a large saucepan and toss them with cornstarch.
  2. Incorporate cinnamon, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt into apples; cook for about 5 minutes until tender.
  3. Spread the apple mixture onto a plate and let it cool completely.
  4. Line a cutting board with parchment paper and cut each puff pastry sheet into 4 squares.
  5. Brush two sides of each square with egg wash.
  6. Place a mound of cooled filling in the center of each square.
  7. Fold squares into triangles and seal edges with a floured fork.
  8. Transfer turnovers to the parchment-lined board and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake turnovers for about 25 minutes until golden and crisp.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm, optionally with whipped cream for dipping.

Notes

Ensure the apple mixture is cool before assembling to prevent soggy pastry. You can freeze the turnovers for later baking.
