Description
Delicious and portable apple hand pies made with flaky pastry and spiced apples.
Ingredients

- 1 pound Granny Smith apples
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- 4 Tablespoons water (divided)
- 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 frozen pastry puff sheets (thawed)
- 1 egg white
- 1 Tablespoon cold water
- 2 Tablespoons sugar
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Peel, core, and cut the apples into ½ inch pieces.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine chopped apples, sugar, butter, and cinnamon, stirring until the butter melts.
- Add 2 tablespoons of water, cover, and cook for 10-12 minutes until apples are soft.
- Mix remaining 2 tablespoons of water and cornstarch in a bowl, then add to the apple mixture and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until thickened.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and roll out puff pastry sheets, cutting each into six 3×6 inch rectangles.
- Place apple mixture on half of the rectangles and cover with the other half that has slits for steam to escape.
- Seal the edges with a fork and brush with egg white mixed with cold water.
- Sprinkle the tops with sugar and cinnamon mixture.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
Perfect for sharing or enjoying as a sweet snack. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
