Description

Ingredients

  • 6 large apples (like Granny Smith, Fuji, or Honeycrisp)
  • ¾ cup water
  • â…“ cup brown sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • â…” cup milk
  • 6 Tablespoons melted and cooled unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel the apples, then slice them and set aside.
  2. In a saucepot, combine the water, brown sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla extract, apple pie spice, and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
  3. Add the sliced apples to the saucepot and cook on a simmer for 4-5 minutes. Set aside.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  5. Transfer the cooked apple mixture into the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  6. For the topping, combine the flour, sugar, and baking powder in a bowl. Add milk and melted butter, stirring until just combined.
  7. Spoon the topping evenly over the apples.
  8. Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
