Ingredients

  • ¾ cup water

  • 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • â…” cup milk
  • 6 Tablespoons melted and cooled unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples by washing, peeling, and slicing them. Set aside.
  2. In a saucepot, combine water, brown sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla extract, apple pie spice, and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
  3. Add the sliced apples to the saucepot and simmer for about 4-5 minutes. Set aside.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  5. Transfer the cooked apple mixture into the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  6. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and baking powder. Add milk and melted butter, stirring until just combined.
  7. Spoon the topping evenly over the apples to cover them well.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
