Description

A comforting dish with layers of potatoes, onions, beef patties, and cream gravy, baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups milk, divided
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 to 5 Russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. Mix ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 6 patties.
  3. Brown patties on both sides in a skillet and set aside.
  4. Whisk 1 cup milk with flour in the same skillet until smooth, then slowly add remaining milk and cook until thickened.
  5. Add half the potatoes to the baking dish followed by half the onions.
  6. Arrange the browned patties over the vegetables, then add the remaining potatoes and onions.
  7. Pour the gravy evenly over everything, cover with foil, and bake for 1 hour.
  8. Remove foil, sprinkle cheddar cheese on top, and bake for an additional 15 minutes.

Notes

Slice the potatoes thinly for even cooking. Brown the patties in the same skillet used for making gravy for added flavor.
